AX-15 with a Stroker

Alright, I have just started the install of my stroker engine on my project YJ. Here is what I have so far:

4.7 Stroker
AX-15
8.8 Rear Axle
Waggy 44 Front Axle

I am reusing the AX-15 from the YJ. I just had an interesting thing brought up though. The original 4.2 engine used a carb. So that means there was no computer. I did get the wiring harness that came with the engine.

I am installing the transmission this weekend. Now I am beginning to think about how the harness hooks to the transmission. I think the computer is going to be looking to the transmission for some info.

What do you guys recommend? Is there a way to reuse the tranny, or will I need to get one with the right sensors in it?

The only info from the ax15 tranny/x-fer case is the speed sensor.

Someone just told me about a crank sensor. I was also told to use a different flywheel.

My problem is that the old AX-15 was to a carb engine. I am now going to a throttle body HO engine.

Any ideas on this?

You do need some kind of Crank position sensor.

After extensive research, i wound up purchasing a kit from Advance Adapters to control the crank trigger. There are 2 companies on the market making balancer crank triggers, Advance Adapters and Hesco. Advance was cheaper from Summit racing by ~$30. Novak Conversions also has some good tech on there website and tech line. As in the post noted above, I contacted both Advance Adapters and Hesco about making my own crank trigger. I was told by both that it was proprietary info that they would not sell to the public.

If your bellhousing doesn't have the window for the pickup, you simply should have gotten a later bellhousing and use the stock pickup unit, probably way cheaper than any of those relocation kits?

Don't forget, you would also need the correct flywheel with the notches in it.

True, and the correct one for you application too(Renix, OBDI these two MAY? be the same?, OBDII), I got one from the junk yard for $35, it was the WRONG one , I got the CORRECT one off of Craigs List for $20, my extra bellhousing is an early one and has the internal hydraulic throwout bearing, my Jeep uses the external slave cylinder, so you would need to get the correct bellhousing for you application too!
