Valve problems: Mopar Performance valve springs, retainers

Post by qualm »

So my engine is at the builders and he said that there is a problem with the valves and the the Mopar performance springs, locks and retainers. I have part numbers P4452032, P4529218, and P5249464. The problem is that my valves are 3 groove and the Mopar keepers are 1 groove. Also if we try to use the stock keepers the retainers and the valve sit flush. So do I have the wrong parts? Or do I get the earlier valves from the 1998 and earlier engines? No one seems to mention this when they recomment the Mopar Performance stuff for later engines.

Thanks,

The Mopar retainers are meant to be uses on the earlier single groove valves. You might want to look at retainers from a Hemi possibly as they have 3 grooves.

Your stock locks should work.

Already tried this and it does not work. The retainers and the end of the valve, that the spring and retainer go on sit flush. There is nowhere for the pushrod to sit.

So it is now a guessing game? Has anyone else had this issue? Could I should buy the single groove valves and call it good?

Thanks

I meant to say locks, not retainers.

So where would I start with the locks from Mopar? Any suggestions?

If I bought the old style valves would that work?

Thanks

Yes, you can buy valves with one lock groove, or you can use the stock 3 groove locks. It would be cheaper to use your stock locks.

The stock locks will not work.

The old style valves will work fine. However, I would ask your machinist if he has a lock solution that would work with your valves and the mopar retainers. Perhaps one of the new hemi locks might work.

How did you end up solving the lock issue?

That would be the best solution. I had used the same Mopar springs/retainers/locks when I first built my stroker, but my valves had single groove stems and everything went together perfectly.
