Can a guy take a 64mm 4 weight crank and have 10mm shaved off the front so I don't have to buy a spacer?

When this is done, does the bolt hole need to be re-tapped? Or is it still deep enough for the HB bolt after being shaved?
If it feels right, then STROKE it!
