Re: Older style cam / newer block
What about it? You need the bolt, pin and spring kit from Mopar for the earlier timing set up. Part number #83502890. Also, you will need an earlier timing set. I recommend one of the following; Cloyes Dual roller 9-3127 ($141.95), Cloyes silent link chain c-3041 ($53.31), Rollmaster 258 billet timing set cs7100/ A9q ($115.66), or the JP Performance billet timing set JP5629 ($119). These prices are old and from Falcon, so they may differ now. Of course you will also need the earlier cam of your choice.

Re: Older style cam / newer block
Chris, would he need a new front timing cover as well? or does the newer ones have the raised wear surface as well?

Re: Older style cam / newer block
I've heard mixed findings on the timing cover. I've heard some have the dimple some don't. In my experience they all have the dimple. But it is easy to tell. There should be a little raised dimple on the timing cover in front of where the cam sits.

My '00 cover has a bout a 1/4" dimple that the pin can thrust against.

Same on my 2000, which is all I have ever seen.. someone on here tried to tell me that there was some hardened bit that goes in there. He never did provide proof.IH 392 wrote:My '00 cover has a bout a 1/4" dimple that the pin can thrust against.

I also read the all par site such as this:http://www.allpar.com/fix/holler/valve-prepping.html where they put groove sin the intake valve... then here http://www.allpar.com/fix/holler/head-porting2.html where they put some more groves in the intake tract.

Re: Older style cam / newer block
Thanks for all the info. I looked at my 4.0 timing cover and my 258 and they both have the dimple and seemd the only diff. is the timing indicator. I am going to use the 258 since I want to run org. damper ( but new) so I can stay with my org. belt set up. Plan on Flowkooler water pump for 258. Any thoughts welcome.
