You say that they used RaceTec pistons? When my first stroker build failed because I used the wrong piston rings, I notice that the bottom of the pistons had score marks, as if the sides of small end of the rod was making contact with the bottom of the piston. Later I found out that some material needed to be shaven off from the bottom of the pistons so that they don't make contact. They probably didn't check those clearances, causing your pistons to get stuck, and possibly breaking the rings or scoring the walls? You can have broken rings, and not have a lot of compression loss which is what I found out.
