NEW CRATE STROKER TICKING /RATTLE. Aft 4k miles

Post by Briancolirad »

I need help diagnosing my new found tick or rattle. It is a crate engine , 4.7 l. My mechanic has checked computer diag, compression test, pulled oil pan and inspected cylinder walls, removed a couple crank and rod bearings to inspect, and adjusted valves..

This noise shows up at about 2750 rpm. And is relitive to rpm.. When holding throttle steady noise is inconsistent like a rattle, or too much play in a bearing. Mechanic now thinks either lifters or rod bearings.. . ...
I'll take anything, it's my DD and I need her to be reliable again. Engine is under.warranty ,however, you know they want the long block for inspection.

ADDITIONAL info...
Noise is loud. And most noticeable on passenger side by oil pan / underneath. Not noticeable at idle¡ Only at rpm rap up.

I'm assuming you checked the flex plate.
You didn't mention about anything being in the pan but never hurts to cut the filter open also.

No debris and flex.plate is good. I'm afraid it is detonation and I'm in too deep. :brickwall:

Sounds like the engine will need to come out for a full teardown and inspection. Any repairs will be easier with the engine on a stand.

It won't be detonating just sitting and reving to 2750rpm. Driving under load, yes.

Your oil pump is on that side, might want to check that out.
Also it could be excessive side clearance between the side of the rod journal and crankshaft. That'll make a rattle/ inconsistent knock type noise but shouldn't hurt anything.

Bottom line 505 is a joke I was hoping I would get lucky. I was unfortunate to read only good things up until I gave them my money then it seemed like I could write a novel about my bad experience. Zach at 5:05 told me there was a scorched piston do to detonation. The engine was designed to run off of a stock CPU which I had. Zack claims I had 10 degrees too much timing at wide open throttle and it was due to a program I had installed the day after the knocking appeared. ( hindsight this was a poor choice but what did I have to lose I knew it was blown).
So I know that the tune had nothing to do with it because I installed it after it blew okay onward we go. He proceeded to tell me months later the engine was ready, I went to New Mexico to pick it up and it was not...it still made the noise and had no oil pressure at idle . The guy he had working for him in New Mexico as the repair mechanic was awesome, hats off to you Bryan, you are the only one who tried to help me in this. He agreed something was majorly wrong but he only put the engine in and Zack rebuilt it. About another month later the engine is ready. Zac is going to deliver it to me in Colorado however the bill has increased and is asking for gas money to deliver it. I call him out on his bizarre way of thinking and agree to proceed because I want my car back. He actually shows up with my car the following weekend and he is untying from the trailer as he tells me I have a out-of-date cooling system. ( little does he know is brand new except for heater core.) and a bad radiator cap and overheating cause the engine to blow alongside with detonation from my tune.
I called him out on all of his BS and tell him the only thing that upsets me is that he thinks I am that stupid. He did not confirm even checking the camshaft or timing set for it being correct and it a half-assed job reinstalling my fans and claiming that my aftermarket electric fans were inferior to the mechanical stock fans and then he could send me a picture of the Heat tab that had been blown. I straightforward said b** shit. He handed me my money back and we went on our way. Claiming he did me favor.

Now I have the Jeep here at a local mechanic 4 blocks from my house who does custom work,I trust this guy and it will take some time but as of today it should be going to the Machine Shop to see what else is wrong inside the engine. when I got it back it still ran hot and is misfiring. My mechanic thinks it's due to terrible valve train noise and some possible exhaust leaks I think the camshaft could be built out of spec. Zach noted on his service sheet that the crank had a leak and was worn at the cell surface, that he sold me less than a year ago.
Here's the thing,Zack and 505 Performance uses a few good parts such as racetec Pistons ARP bolts roller rockers from I don't remember who. But obviously no one takes any Pride at their work, and they must not be that good at it because it's not that hard of an engine. So hopefully I can salvage it hurt with someone who takes a little bit of pride in their work unfortunately I don't have a garage otherwise I would be doing this all myself for the fun in it and the knowledge but I can't thankfully I have someone who I can trust now and believe it or not has had experience with 5:05 as well and it was terrible so I think he wants to see me back on the road and Spite of zack personally.

Sorry to hear about all of your troubles with 505 Performance. Sounds like they "built" you a garbage engine and they don't seem to care about their reputation either. Hope your local mechanic can fix it properly.
