Do they have a different set of numbers with larger injectors?Shapoopie99 wrote:The builder quoted HP and TQ numbers with the stock fuel system so I hopefully won't have any problems

The OP's engine specs suggest a very mild "rockcrawler" type build and if the head remains unported, it won't make more than 210hp and the stock WJ injectors would actually suffice.jsawduste wrote:Unless your "installer" has a crystal ball. Simply relying on a stock fuel system and hoping it suffices during the critical break in is foolish.
Maybe it will work/maybe it won`t. Perhaps he has the capability to change the cal and injector duty cycle I dunno.
What I do know is that the engine should be set up right the first time before it is ever lit off.
While I hope everything works out for you the specs of your engine is certainty not how many of us would put one together.

Just got this back from Casey at S&J
These are the numbers we received from Hesco Performance. We have not actually run an engine on a Dyno for accurate numbers.
We use the Icon -IC-944 Forged piston.
New Scat crank & 4.0 rods with a Zero balanced rotating assembly.
We have sold several engines with this same build process and have received great feedback. Please let me know how you like it.
I wasn't aware that they built it off a hesco design.

Well I've got a hundred miles on the new engine and for the most part it has done really well. It pulls super hard through the mid range for a lightly as I've been on it. It picks up a harmonic vibe about 3800,the one time I raved it that hard but goes away about 4000. Sounds lime the SS header just vibrates for a second. It does seem to cut out or stumble a bit at 4200 and then starve out a bit. So injectors and map chip are on the way as well as a TB I'm hoping that gives me what I need at that rpm it is running too lean up high. I'll be tit on the scope and check it out when I get those parts.

Re: First post noob. New 4.7 going in and I'm stoked
any new updates on this one? I'm looking to order a stroker to replace my TJ's broken motor & I'm torn between ordering one from S and J or move up to Golen for one of their 4.6L 270HP motors. Golen costs more, but has an updated and ported head along with other choice parts.
third choice on my list is to get parts from Russ Pottenger and have a local shop rebuild my stock engine. However, i'm still waiting on a parts list & rebuild time may not fit my needs. Don't have 4-6 weeks to wait for my TJ to be back on the road.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: First post noob. New 4.7 going in and I'm stoked
Its going well. I have about 300 miles on it now. Its breaking in quite well milage is starting to increase and its got tons of power compared to the 4.0. It definitely helped with the bbk throttle body and 24 lb injectors. The PCM took a few days to get the fuel and spark curves in line but after about 25 starts it runs and idles really well. I wish it was in a manual transmission vehicle and it would be more fun but in a wj I don't have that option. It builds rpm a little slower then I had hoped at first but the pulls like snot from 2500 to 4800. It has seen 5200 once and didn't seem to mind it. With the scat crank and forged KB 944 it should be safe to at least 6000 rpm. Not that it will get there with the cam that it has. I would have preferred a bigger cam but with the obdii and later it seems that is has more problems then what its worth.
I'm enjoying it and will probably end up putting a tune in it but I'll give a few more months to see how it breaks in.
It runs at 205 degrees with 195 thermostat and hasn't gotten any hotter then that and has given me no problems . I run it on midgrade and have had no pinging or issues.
There is a harmonic vibration at 3200 to 3300 that goes away quickly as I don't really hold it at that rpm.
Overall its great. There is some power definitely left on the table for someone who want to modify it and tinker around but I'm pleased with it as is for now.
