My 4.0 disintegrated a piston and there was no other choice but to go big or go home.

Those two items are not a performance "upgrade", but rather what the engine needs to survive. If you are running lean on WOT with too small of an injector the engine will not be happy. Tulliped valves, melted pistons, etc. The fuel grade selection is in the same league.
