160 Degree Thermostat
Thoughts on this? I haven't heard of anyone ever running one. Is this too cool?

Re: 160 Degree Thermostat
If you're overheating at 190* you'll overheat at 160* too.
You can get more power out of ANY engine!!!

Re: 160 Degree Thermostat
It IS if you want your heater to blow warm air in the cold winter months. Unless you live in a country near the Equator that has a warm climate year-round, I wouldn't recommend going lower than a 180* t'stat if only so that you can have decent heater function in the winter.Coffee Commando wrote:Thoughts on this? Re: 160 Degree Thermostat
It doesn't get that cold in Florida. So if I maintained this temperature via electric fans and spoof'ing the ECU into turning on the auxillary sooner with the resistor trick would this increase the HP due to a cooler combustion chamber?
Is there a complex formula for roughly guestimating detonation based on DCR with engine temperature?

Re: 160 Degree Thermostat
No, it would just increase engine wear.

Re: 160 Degree Thermostat
Possibly but keeping the engine running cooler than normal could increase emissions, oil contamination, and engine wear so is it worth it?Coffee Commando wrote:It doesn't get that cold in Florida. Re: 160 Degree Thermostat
One of the guys posted a chart showing the relationship between engine temperature and octane requirement ..... January- February perhaps?Coffee Commando wrote: Is there a complex formula for roughly guestimating detonation based on DCR with engine temperature?

Re: 160 Degree Thermostat
160 is way to cool...I ran a 180 for a while and at highway speeds it would be at the 1/2 hash mark between 100 and 210...you will always run rich if you use the 160..possibly ok if a hot climate for the 180. I have a new dirk radiator and the NAPA clutch fan...I run a MR Gasket hi flo 195 and it stays at 195 in all but the most extreme traffic conditions... my aux fan almost never kicks on and i don't think I ever pass the 210 hash mark
