Curious stalling... like it's running out of gas.

Post by Missourian »

Anyone experience and correct a stalling Jeep STROKER or 4.0L... like it's running out of gas?

However, quick as it started this evening it quit... or at least I think it quit.

Have you ever ran your Jeep out of gas or nearly out of gas and felt the sputtering or hesitant pull of it running out of gas. I would swear it can't be the fuel pump it new with less than 5k miles on it.

Any ideas or rectified experiences that you had with your Jeep STROKER or 4.0L?
I have a 4.6L STOKER in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler with 4.5" lift on 35" BFG MT and 4.56:1 gears.

Best to perform a fuel pressure check. Some of the replacemnt pumps are very poor. Last time fuel filter was changed?

You should be able to take it to a parts store and pull the code history

91-96, you can do it yourself with no tools.

insert key turn to the run position (not start), then back 1 click to off, forward one click to on, back 1 click to off forward one click to on and count the blinks of the check engine light.

you will probably get a 12 first and 55 means nothing follows

Some codes will not trip the CEL... like code 54 that left me stranded due to a loose common ground nut for the Crank Position Sensor and Cam sensor.

TL-DR
key on-off-on-off-on count blinks of CEL

well i tried again but still no flashing light. but i know the CEL was on cause i just did it after it came on. and is it normal for the to go off and stay off after you restart if it does not atempt to stall.
