Renix head cracks

Post by 4.whoa »

Has anyone had issues with renix heads cracking? I have 2 @ the machine shop being checked out and BOTH are cracked between the valves on cyl #1  I'm going to pick them up tomorrow, I have 1 more renix head and a 7120 to drop off for checking. I'm building a mostly stocker in an '87xj, so I wasn't wanting to use my spare 7120 on this build. I was wondering if anyone else was having problems with these.

i have a 0630 head from a 97 grand cherokee motor that I am building as a stroker that i believe is cracked in the same area. I don't have it in my hands yet still at the shop with the block, ended up getting a second head which was good. Just my thoughts here , doesn't seem to make a difference as to what year or motor the head is just how hard they were run or overheated.

Depending on how bad the crack is, the head may be able to be cut for seat inserts, fixed tons of Chivy heads that way.

I'll be able to find out better tomorrow. I was hoping for a quick cleanup to get it together quick and cheap :(

Well, talked to shop again . . My 3rd renix head is also cracked :brickwall: But my 7120 isn't :). So. I guess ill be updating it. I have one bad one stripped and the crack looks about 1/4" deep- into port. I tried to get some pics but I can't get close enough to see it without being blurry.
I asked them about new seats and he said he didn't think it would hold a seal without being welded. I don't think that head is worth it. . . .so I'm messing with making the renix tps work on the H.O. tb. I saw a link somewhere here about using part of the ho tps on the renix one so I'm gonna try it  any tips :?:

Why stick with a Renix head? An HO flows better.

Yes, but I WAS just gonna stay stock save for. A mild cam. Its going in a '87xj for my dad, he needs something that'll get him around in the snow this winter. I was gonna put the HO head/int/tb on MY '87 mj , but oh well, guess he gets the guinea pig
