The Only Real Difference between old and New Pans is the new pans do not have the oil splash shield in them and the old style does...

I have used the old style pan on newer engines and they fit perfectly...

Which splash shield are you talking about? The one that came off my 2001 XJ had a splash shield covering the forward pump of the sump.

That is the Splash shield, All 00+ 4.0L engines I have changed the pan on have not had a splash shield so either yours has been replaced once or they installed some with the splash shield...

Interesting...

The oil pan was never changed on the 2000. Still using the stock pan.
