.903" vs .904" lifter?

I talked with Lunati and they said that the .903" lifters would work fine in the 4.0L, which takes a .904" lifter. However, now I have advice not to use a .903" lifter. According to the FSM lifter tolerance is .904"-.9045", lifter bore .9055" to .9065", and lifter to bore clearance at .001" to .0025".

So, would you advise using a .903" lifter or not?

Why are you considering these lifters?
what is, interesting about them? or is this the latest idea on getting more oil on the cam?

They are the microtrol lifters. It was hard to find a company that has a lifter made in the US. Lunati's lifters and they have better oil control, and can afford less preload than others.

Racer Brown sells Stanadyne lifters. They are made in the USA. They are around $60.00 for a set.

if you have custom length pushrods, why couldnt you use these?

Its the diameter, not the height of the lifters.

I just measured the lunati lifters to be .9036" to .9038", which is the same as a set of engine tech lifters and a set of compcam lifters.

Here is something interesting. I compared a Lunati, a Crower Cam Saver, an OEM, a Comp Cams and an Engine Tech. All measured .9036" to .9038" except the OEM and Crower. They measured .9044" to .9045"

I would think it all depends on what diameter the bore is in the block...

To big of a clearance could cause what? Lower oil pressure?

Given the same bore diameter a smaller lifter will be able to wobble more, but I don't know if that has any effect. Lower oil pressure perhaps. I have ran several of these lifters in the same block and noticed no real oil pressure difference. Even with the Crower Cam savers and their flat spot I noticed no real oil pressure change. I'm not really certain that the size makes that much of a difference considering the majority are of the smaller size and the most commonly used.
