cam savers
built my 4.7 some time ago has been put in the jeep, not started but primed several times shows 60psi hv pump , my question is I have a crane 905 and crane lifters bought 4 years ago, before starting was going to take off the rockers, pull the push rods and take out the lifters and recoat the cam lobes. would switching to crower cam savers lifters be a good idea still useing the crane cam. thanks for any in put. jcsj

Re: cam savers
Check out some of the other posts on this site, I suggest take a look especially at SilverXJ's posts. I just purchased a set of the Crower cam saver lifters. I have not assembled my engine yet and am leaning toward grooving my lifter bores in place of the cam saver lifters. If your interested I'll sell you the set I have, we can discuss the price off this post, pm me if interested.

Re: cam savers
Unless you have modified your head or use the Hesco Al head you need to pull the head to remove the lifters.

Re: cam savers
nukfyrsq, thank you for the offer, not sure what I want to do. I think I may start this set up after relube and find another block to start over with. That would give me the benefit of all the info and experience found here.silverXJ I have read some where that even with the alum head that you still may have to move lifters around to a different pushrod hole to remove from the engine. silverXJ how deep is the groove in the lifter bore and after doing this process, and is there a burr on each side of the groove? and if so how did you remove. thanks

Re: cam savers
IIRC the groove is .010-.012" There isn't a burr so much on each side, but at the top of the groove. I removed it by running a pick through the groove to clean it up, hit it with a bit of emery cloth then ran an old lifter thought the bore several times until it moves freely.
