Lifters

Post by dwg86 »

I talked with a rep from Federal Mogul(Sealed Power)today. I sent them an email about 2 weeks ago, and acually got a return phone call(I thought that was pretty cool). I asked them if thier lifters where made in the USA. He looked them up and said the ht-2011 are made in Mexico, and they are a production lifter also. I am guessing that means that's what Chrysler used from the factory. They may not be bad lifters(at least not made in China) but they aren't made in the USA. And if Chrysler used them in production, they can't be that bad(there are a lot of high mile 242's still running). And I think I used the HT-2011 in my 401 CJ5(it's been a few years). The only 2 companies making lifters in the USA are Johnson(hylift), bought by Comp, and Stanadyne. He was familure with Johnson because they used to get some of thier lifters from them years ago. He wasn't so sure that the Johnson lifters were all made in the USA...something about certain castings and some parts inside coming from somewhere else. He didn't know much about Stanadyne but did say they were made in USA(All castings and parts? don't know) He said that all of the lifters that Federal Mogul sells goes through a strict inspection for defects and hardness.

We had a long conversation about camshaft failures, lifters and low zinc in oil. He was aware of the Jeep camshaft failures, and made it sound like the aftermarket Jeep 242 cams had a bigger failure rate than others(my take on it). He also said that the low zinc in oil was more the cause than the materials of the cams and lifters. He also said that there is just one camshaft maufacturer casting cams in the US. That would be CWC in Michigan. I have found "CWC" markings on stock and aftermarket cams.

I talked to Engle cams to see what kind of lifter they sell. They sell and use Stanadyne, and if I can remember correctly, I think Reed Cams sells Stanadyne(I need to verify). I also talked to a rep from Crower last week to see who's lifter they use for thier cam savers. He couldn't tell me who thier supplier was and didn't know if they were made in USA.

I think am leaning towards using the Stanadyne lifter, but I want to try to get some info first.

I am just passing some info. I am trying to buy the best parts I can in hopes that my stroker will last(if I ever get it together).

I use the Federal Mogul as my standard lifters unless I need a special application, Never had a problem. The Stanadyne have a good rep., but I haven't used them personally. I also have not had a problem with the Rhoads lifters. Don't you get a warm feeling when suppliers can't tell you where their products originated?

I also have never had a problem with the Federal Mogul lifters. I was also impressed with there customer service. They actually took the time to call an average Joe rebuilding an engine. That says a lot about the company.I just try to buy American when I can.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed with Crowers "I don't know" answer. They didn't even care to find out who there supplier was...or try to find an answer for me.

yep, me too. customer service is a grand thing, when its happening right. i always tell my fiance, the easiest way to get a great tip from me is to make sure the beer is good, the steak is right, and they happen at the same time!! far too many places (food and otherwise) just dont care because its "only one person"

Yeah, hopefully they don't have that "don't give a damn" attitude, lol.
