So i've been looking over these 4.0 and 4.2 rods and i'm thinking why would anybody want to run these 4.0 rods when they are clearly skinnier, lightweight, an a less heavy duty rod than the 4.2, other than the fact that they are a we bit longer ?
I have 357 and 707 4.2 rods and the 691 4.0 rods and the 357 rods look like they have the most steel in the beam and the 707 rods have more steel in the big end and the 691's just look lighter everywhere with smaller beams.
Ive read people prefer the long rods but it doesn't make sense to me that people would prefer skinnier rods for a little more TDC/BDC dwell time especially in a stroker where higher piston speeds need strong rods ?
I'm kinda leaning toward the 357 rods.
Thoughts or opinions on the jeep long , short rod deal ?
Long or short rods in my 4.5 build ?

There is more to rod design that appearance. Metallurgical properties being at the top of the list. Not to mention a better selection of pistons for the long rod to achieve the so important 0 deck.

Hmm i was under the impression they were all cast from similar steel, haven't read or heard to the contrary, not yet anyway.
I can't seem to find a piston for the 6.125" rod that has more than 1.353 comp height so 0.0275" in the hole ?

Russ can supply you with a set of pistons that have a compression height of 1.385" to go with the 4.0 rods.
In another thread you asked which crank to use. I'd suggest the 12cwt heavier crank since you'll be doing a lot of slow trail driving. The lighter crank would be better on a fast street or race set up.

A lot has changed in just the last 5 to 10 years or so. Parts continue to get better and packages continually get refined.
The main reason for utilizing the short 5.875 258 rod is that it allows you to use a stock replacement cast 4.0 piston. Well it might be enticing to start a stroker build with a lower cost piston you’ll end up with a lot of compromises in doing a short rod stroker build.
Because I believe a lot of applications could benefit from the 12 counterweight crankshaft’s, I’m now just releasing a economically priced cast steel 12 wt crankshaft as a upgrade option to the 4 counterweight Scat crank.
