here is a grade A noob question for you!!

Post by xj538 »

alright i got a 89 jeep cherokee. it just rolled over to 150000 miles, its not that much but its got a ton of blow by. so i am getting the engine rebuilt here in the next couple days. i just wanted to know what are the pros and cons of stroking your jeeps 4.0 engine to a 4.6? i wanna know stuff like, worse gas mileage, or the crankshaft will not last as long as it should, or like more horsepower at higher rpms, and more torque at lower rpms, and also what would be a ruff guess of what my horsepower and torque would be after doing that plus with comp cams and lifters, thanks guys your help would be awesome.

Lot of variables in your post, but Ill give you my thoughts. I get better gas mileage, but I built it to be more efficient. More power, yes. Watch for camshaft failure, if you study up on your oils it shouldnt be a problem. If you just did a basic stroker you could expect around 230hp and 275ish lb/ft.
Now I can be like all those other awesome people with more than one Jeep in their sig, but now I have to say one of them is sold:(
97 XJ 4.6
90 MJ 4.0 - sold

I want to have as many Jeeps as children. DD, offroader, drag MJ and another one. 4=4

Hey man,
I just finished my 4.7. It's probably the "high-buck" recipe that Dino has, to be honest. Not the specs exactly, but pretty much on the cost  If you like/love your Jeep, DO IT! This is the engine the Jeeps NEED. Jeep could'a done this them selves and sold another million of them. Even a mild one would be great and mine , though still in the break in, is like a sports car now  I did a quick full throttle test the other day and it SPUN, not chirped, the back tires (31/10.50's) on DRY PAVEMENT  I'm still goin' for a UniChip upgrade too :worship: I can't wait 'till it's got a couple thousand miles and I can get it to the sand :rockout:

It's WORTH IT

T~

Jeep could have done a lot to the engine before killing it off. But they didn't.

This would be due to the world being run by accountants , lawyers and software tycoons.

Just imagine if they'd have built an SOHC or DOHC version, with a cross flow head :worship: Chevy's 4.2 that's in the Trail Blazer would be an example. This engine could'a made an EASY 300 HP stock if they'd done a redesign. Oh Well
