So my 99 XJ has 290-k miles on it and I’ve had a tapping noise getting worse since the 280-k mark and it seems to be a piston slap noise.
I want to pull the oil pan and the head to inspect but if I’m gonna do that I’d rather just do a quality rebuild than just clean up the bore and put a new piston in.
So my question is which stock rebuild kit is recommended or does anyone have a good quality grab bag list of quality parts I should go with?
Of course a lot of this may change once torn down to see what’s saveable or not.
I’d like to get better than stock HP with a good quality build without stroking.
I’m in north Georgia so the winters are pretty mild.
Looking for quality stock build kit 99XJ.

Just curious, why not stroke it?
