Hi
I'm Sebastian from Chile and I need some help to mod my 4.0L. Stroker is not an option for now.
Im going to vacations to the United States in February so I will buy parts there and send it to my country, so I need to be sure what to and what not to buy.
The terrain here is long climbs of dirt and for the future go to a race with big dunes (stock class allows only engine mods but no stroker), so the jeep rpm range is from 3000 to 5200 rpm, mostly above 4000 rpm and rev limiter. I live at 8200 ft altitude city so there is a lot of power loss, but I do a lot of offroad at sea level to.
The Jeep is more for off road than on road, but on summer vacations I drive it a lot on the road
Currently the Jeep configuration is:
-AX15 swap with 3.55 gears and 30x13 tires (325/60R15)
-65mm Throttle body from a 4.7L v8 and 99+intake manifold
-aftermarket ebay header cracked (I will get a new one after the build)
-complete 2.5" exhaust pipe from the header, with Magnaflow 14416 muffler, no cat
-K&N cold air intake kit bored to 65mm and IAT relocation
-3 row aluminum radiator, stock fan and and extra fan for hard offroad
Here is my jeep now in a relatively small climb video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CkG4qbO3dw
And here it is in a medium climb video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5gybTBVFwc
Notice that at half climb it maintains at 3000-3500 rpm. Thats 3rd gear in Low range. In a more long climb or more slopped the 3rd gear will die and 2nd gear bounce the rev limiter and it gets stuck. For sure 3.73 gears will help, but I want to give a chance to the 3.55
This is an example of the race I was talking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQrVmNWR1E8
So, the plans for my build are:
-Head: 7120 or 0630 head ported and polished by me or a local shop , big valves for sure . The initial plan was to buy LS1 valves, but I read here that I could use 5.7 Hemi valves. Which one is better? Are Hemi valves light as LS1 valves? Head milling: what is a safe number for milling? 0.010? 0.030?
-Cam choice: I am between the comp 68-235-4 and 68-239-4 obviously with lifters and timing. Im not a fan of increase the rev limiter, but I thing 5.500 rev limiter is safe and it will help on long dunes. A lot of guys here run 5.800 rpm revlimiter with no problems at all
-Valve springs: with LS valves I was thinking on Chevy Performance 12499224 springs, but if the option is Hemi valves, which springs I could use with the cam? Mopar Performance P5249464?
This plan is to NOT remove the engine, so block decking is not an option for now. After the build and some money I wiil buy unichip and unichip personal tune it, but first the engine needs to be build.
I will appreciate all your help, feedback and suggestions
Thanks
Sebastian
