New pushrods off oldsmobile 400-455 still have my knock. No noise on deceleration, no load. Even checked dizzy for gear wear and found nothing. My only thought is the original pushrods pounded out the lifters as to why even with corrected pushrods I still have this noise. Its like a chatter kind of with an irregular heartbeat. Its not a constant thump thump. Everyone here is sick of me and granted I would be too. This guys a fucking idiot blah blah blah. I get it !!! Im tired of this myself. Any encouraging advice or another idea ? Please dont give me shit because Ive had enough from people on here and my wife because shes tired of me beating myself to death. Thanks
If someone is interested in the motor let me know ! Might pull it and throw a crate 4.0 in it with a warrenty and be done.
Haha, you probably know what I'm going to suggest, but a chatter sound might just mean you have a noisy performance cam. There are people running the same cam that have described it as a bit noisy, but they only know what it should sound like; maybe you can help them out by giving them a bit more to go by?
It sounds like you may have fixed something though, maybe you should just drive it, it might quite down.
Well, without knowing how the knock sounds like exactly, there's a good chance that some air was sucked into the lifters from the first oil change. I've read that if no oil was put into the oil filter during the oil change, the first thing that will be sucked in would be air, and I guess that would fill your lifters with air bubbles making them noisy. Driving it around would usually get rid of air bubbles in the lifters.

I'm glad you've finally realised that you need a real professional to sort the engine out for you. The only question is why did you decide to ignore everyone's advice for so long? It would have saved you a lot of time, money, and grief.
I don't know if Russ has already thrown in the towel but you could find out if he's still willing to help you.
Ive gone through peoples advice and other mechanics as well. Tuffys or my engine builder has been no help either. Also seems like every engine performance builder crate engines out there get bad raps. I might pull the head again and replace lifters a third time. Im just tired of this shit. Is there load on lifters ONLY on acceleration ? Deceleration its quiet as a mouse.
It was one and no idea. The guy last week from tuffys told me it was bent. Oh okay whatever slight bend no huge deal. My wife picked it up and when i pulled the vc the first intake exhaust rockers were bolted down with one pushrod not under the rocker at all and the other hanging out looking like a lightning bolt. No way in hell was it like that when I broght it there. I was like WTF is this !!! I didnt even call them. 15 years ago oh yea i would of had grown men crying and mothers taking small children outside from the waiting room.
Might be a bent or stuck valve. Especially being you experienced bent push rods. The knock you hear could be the detonation blowing back through the intake or exhust manifold.
Second thought, spark knock or predetonation will only knock under load as well. While coasting the motor would sound fine. Re-check your timing as well.
Spark knock or pre detonation. Okay cool thats another avenue to look at. Tuesday I have a referred local mechanic shop check it out. Nice guy and very understanding of my recent hair loss lol. He said hes going to pull out all his tricks to figure it out. $80 an hour labor rate !! Shit dig into it lmao.
Well I pulled the head last night again !!! All the camshaft lobes looked great, all the lifters were pumped up and still are. The lifters all have an even cloudy circle on the flats that ride the camshaft. So good news is they are turning in their happy little bores. I called my local new mechanic and he was shocked. Hes coming over tomorrow because he wants to see them. He asked me to keep in touch because it has his curiosity and wants answers like myself. I'm still thinking spark knock because of no noise on deceleration. That would eliminate lower end issues at least. I'm running champs rc12lyc now so maybe try a hotter plug or over 87 octane. I'm getting there slowly and nobody has less patience the me. Not even Russ,Dino,or Chris. I lalso read tonight that a higher lift cam means I may need longer pushrods because the base circle is smaller or something like that. Swear to God...one step forward 3 steps back and I thought milled and decking meant shorter rods. Never factored in higher lift cam

Didn't you just measure your pushrods and get the correct length?
