I just curious at this point nothing serious in the near term. So what would make more sense here if I wanted to gain some HP on my Jeep 2001 XJ for Towing a small camper. I live at higher altitude so mainly I just looking for gaining back some lost HP from that. Some of my concerns are we have to do emissions checks here in this state of Colorado. So I'm not sure how that all plays out either if anyone had to do that with strokers or any other modifications either. Anyone have issues with emissions folks getting cranky?
So assuming that's not an issue I'm curious what makes more sense dollar wise for my 2001 XJ 4.0L (it has California emissions on it by the way).. ?
1) Some sort of stroker engine upgrade.
2) Supercharger kit.
3) Turbocharger Kit.
4) By chance some sort of simple engine mod that get me a ~20 HP even..

Re: Some newbie general questions
A supercharger or turbo would be the best route to more power at higher altitudes, except that there are no XJ kits so you'd need to adapt a Wrangler kit for your application. Otherwise you'd need to fab your own custom kit.

Re: Some newbie general questions
Hey thanks,
Yeah i should have mentioned that I was planing on going from 3.55 gears to 4.10 gears on the axles. So my hopes is that will be sufficient. I just thinking if that isn't then what could be my next options doing a stroker seems like it could be a fun project, but maybe a supercharger would work as well. I just wasn't sure would any of that be emissions legal? or just assume they won't notice especially if you did a stroker lol.
