Double roller confusion

Post by amceaglesx4 »

Im a little lost here for a few reasons...

!- Since I have a 4.0 camshaft and a 258 crank do I need some crazy mix and match timing chain and gears ?

2- If not what do I need here ? There are a shit ton of choices.

Thanks :banghead:

No, Use a 4.0L timing set. I recommend the JP Performance/Rollermaster timing set.

The funds are starting to run low lol. Are all the timing chain camshaft gears all the same throughout the 242 and 258 ? I know the 99 I have is a newer camshaft bolt plate versus a 95. Obviously double roller gears are different. I might just go a single chain or a roller. I also read somewhere that a 93 or 94 was a stock oem roller chain. Anybody have any insight on this ?

The early single roller factory 4.0 timing set was 87-93
The later set 94-98. 1999 and up was on the thrust plate cams.

If you're on a tight budget I would go with the early 87-93 set. They will be around $35.00
The billet gear double roller Rollmasters run $130.00

So the 87-93 was a factory roller and 94-01 was just a plain chain then ? Thanks Russ
