Few questions:
Looking to install a 4.6 Golen stroker in my 1997 TJ. My question is will the AX15 trans that's currently behind my 4.0 be up to the task.
From what I can tell the trans is only rated to 300 foot pounds torque and Golens stroker maxs out at 312 at 4k. I do take this jeep in Moab yearly so reliability is key. The other 5 speed I saw that was a direct swap has the same ratings.
This engine is rated at 270 hp.
If this trans is not suited what are people using? I'm trying to avoid lots of modification and fabrication. Any advice would be great

Re: 4.6 stroker trans question
You're thinking of the NV3550 which is rated to 300lbft. The AX15 will take a lot more than that and has been used successfully behind LS1 V8 swaps.
My AX15 still works flawlessly with 256k miles under its belt and 82k of those with the stroker.

Re: 4.6 stroker trans question
Thank you for the feedback. I am going to have it rebuilt before I install the 4.6. Are there any master kits that are top quality? When I search all I find is Crown which I feel make crappy parts.

Re: 4.6 stroker trans question
I have rebuilt about 4 AX-15's and all of them I used kits from transparts warehouse. I purchased them through their ebay store and have always gotten a high quality kit with factory bearings.

I think the AX15 should hold up fine. I believe they are more robust than some people like to think.

Re: 4.6 stroker trans question
Ax15's are pretty tough. Just because it says only rated at 300 lbs of torque doesn't mean it can't handle more. I would say safely 400 IMO. Its like a gallon of milk if the expiration date says June 1st it doesn't mean its bad on the 2nd. Just means they can't sell it anymore.
