Pin height difference between KB and Bulltear forged pistons

Post by nicpaige »

Does anyone know the pin height differences between the KB 944 and the Bulltear stroker pistons?

Off the top of my head for off the shelf pistons it would be .040. Off the record the Eagle rods were supposed to be mated to the KB`s. The Eagles are .020 longer then stock. A stock rod leaves the piston down .020 in the hole. Rod length and piston height gives me the .040

By rights if the BT`s are truly custom you should be able to spec the pin height.

What John said ^

The Icon 944 piston has a cd of 1.353 with a stock pin dia of .931
When doing a custom piston you can put the pin wherever, and whatever you want.
A option I do in many of the strokers I do is order the piston with a Chevy .927 pin and bush
the rod for a full floating pin.

The IC944s have a pin height of 1.353" and, when used with 4.0L rods, are ~0.027" down the hole at TDC in a standard 4.0L block.
If you want a zero deck clearance, you could spec Bulltear pistons with a 1.380" pin height to use with 6.125" 4.0L rods and avoid the need to mill the block deck.
Another more expensive alternative is to get a set of Eagle 6.150" forged rods (not easy to find as they're no longer made) and use IC944 pistons that are modified to accept 0.912" full-floating pins. This would leave the pistons only ~0.002" down the hole at TDC.

Dino, your math is better then mine. Getting old and senile.

That said, finding a set of Eagles might be tough. I`ve been looking and have only found 1 vendor that MIGHT have a set.

There are several SBC rods that could work but the big end is too narrow. Have seen folks machine a bronze spacer for the pin to center the rod from the small end. Not sure I like that idea yet.
