Greetings,

Thank you for the comprehensive information here. I live in Durango, CO. I've been utilizing this site for well over 6 months now and it has helped in narrowing my decisions. I have a 2001 Jeep Sahara. It has 187,xxx miles on it. I've done much of the work myself with respect to ball joints, radiator, brakes, shocks, tune ups, etc. I know absolutely nothing about the engine but with much thanks to this board, I've learned a lot.

In short, I expect to rebuild the engine when it is time. I just don't know what that time is. Compression seems fine, no major noises coming from engine what so ever. I'd like at the very least to hit 200k miles, which I expect to do with in the next year. Following that, I feel justified in replacing it with a stroked and bored engine. I am leaning towards a short stroke. Something similar to the modified poor man's stroker. Money is not the main issue, I just want to do it right. My concern right now is whether to compile the parts one by one or go with a kit provided by Titan or some other vendor. I am aware of the reviews with respect to Titan from this board, I just quite frankly don't know whether it is the parts they provide or the customer service that is most concerning. I would presume the parts themselves would be manufactured by someone else, thus the quality of the parts is not directly related to any reseller in particular. I want something that will handle pump gas, preferably with a CR of around 9.2 or lower and naturally be reliable, as my destinations are often several miles into the mountains either fishing for trout or pursuing elk.

I have many questions, but i suspect in time and proper searching I'll get an idea of the answers. Just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks again to the creator of this place and the folks that support it.

I appreciate it.

Your best best would be to find a junkyard '02-'06 4.0L engine (same head as yours but reinforced casting) and build that up into a stroker over the course of a few months as your budget allows. The problem with Titan was their complete stroker engines, not their stroker kits.
If you build a modified poor man's stroker the only non-OEM parts you'll need are the 258 crank, IC944 pistons (or Bulltear custom), and oversize injectors. All the other rebuild parts (oil pump, timing set, lifters, water pump) can be OEM replacements.
