Lifter bore grooving tool?
Has any one had any experience with these? I can't seem to find ont for sale, but it doe sound like a promising idea. Better than the Crower can savers that constantly rotate and only dump useful oil on the cam like 1/4 of the time.

The manufacturer stopped making the .904 tool. I checked a few months ago.

A search showed that it is for .842 to .905 lifter bores.

$175
I'll just use a file or die grinder on the lifter to turn it into a cam saver lifter, or make my own.

From looking at Comps photo of the one they carried, it appears that is the principle, key way broach, I wonder if anyone knows the size groove these cut?

Re: Lifter bore grooving tool?
So.. does the tool grove the whole lifter bore, or just part of it... if It did the whole bore, wouldn't some pressurized oil come out the top of the groove too?

Re: Lifter bore grooving tool?
grooving the lifter (or flat spotting it) worries me, they need to rotate to keep from burning up the lifter bore, and the cam lobe with hot spots, adding a groove just seems to be a worrysome new untested variable that could slow or halt rotation... then again who knows it might promote it. I have no real reason to worry about a mod like this, it's just that untested aspect... I'd suggest that anyone brave enough to try this make sure you watch for valve train rotation with the valve cover off for a good bit of time before declaring it a sucess.
I would be more inclined to use a lifter with the EDM oiling hole on the face, that to me, is the best option. Much more certain lobe oiling, might even get a few HP from reduced friction.

The EDM oil is for the solid lifter only.

Re: Lifter bore grooving tool?
The groove is just a groove in the lifter bore, not the lifter itself. After you put the groove in they suggest that you clean the bore up to remove any burs. Also, on the lifters that do have the slot in them (Crower Cam savers) the slot goes from the oil ring down, leaving the top part of the lifter untouched. I don't want to use the camsavers because the lifter is constantly rotating and it really isn't throwing oil where it needs to be all the time. Putting a groove on the passenger side of the block, right above the cam lobe puts oil there all the time. From my research it seems like this have been used a lot especially for circle track racing. And the EDM can't be used on hydraulics as it would allow the lifter to bleed down or do something else funky.

Anyone ever used one of these before? I purchased the adjustable type and could use some tips.
