Hi,
I have just completed my 4.7L and use it for dune bashing here in the UAE. The air intake temperature is typically 80C plus and sand ingress can be a problem.
To remedy the above, I have bought a Chinese version of the safari snorkel.
I have already counselled my good friend Dino, but before drilling a rather large hole in my wing (fender) I would just like to ask:
Is anybody out there running a stroker with a snorkel, and if so, how much of a restriction does it present?
(The XJ snorkel has quite a small cross sectional area as it climbs the windscreen pillar.)
Dave

I would not use any of the off-the-shelf snorkel kits, based on my experience. They are marginal for a 4.0, and a major restriction for a stroker.

I run a stock air box with a paper filter & a 3" cowl snorkel. Sealed off the stock box opening and installed 3" flex pipe to the cowl area. Can hear and feel it sucking when just revving it in the driveway. I'm happy with it for daily & offroad useable.

I did try a cowl CAI. Trouble is, when you get stuck in the dunes, a lot of sand gets thrown up and it cascades down the windscreen and into the cowl...
The airbox would quite regularly have a bucket worth of sand in it after every trip...

This is true. Honestly I don't run into those issues, however you could add in a snorkel lid/top. Run the cowl intake with the Spectre 3" flex tube like I & everyone else uses... Buy snorkel lid/top off ebay for around 30 bucks, cut "x" size hole & connect 3" flex tube to snorkel lid. Could then point snorkel whichever way you want.
I have this planned for my jeep because I want the "ram air" effect plus I think it'll look pretty cool. And from my measurements on my 92 there's plenty room. Yours will be identical. Ill be using a 2.5" opening snorkel topper. I hope to run a 90* 2.5" to 3" PVC elbow for the hardware store to connect it.

@Defcon92
I do have a snorkel which I probably will not install because the neck is like a straw - my 4.7L just won't be able to breath through it. So I do have a snorkel top. I will have a look this weekend.
