From what I can tell, I can:
a) re-use the stock cam, with the retaining plate and a stock timing set
b) aftermarket cam, modified timing cover/thrust pin, and a Cloyes double roller set.
I really like the retainer plate, as opposed to modifications to the timing cover and a thrust pin. But I want the performance of the aftermarket cam. I'm sending the cam to Jones this week to answer this question, but has anyone had a custom cam built for the retainer and the Cloyes?

Re: Cam and Timing Set combinations
IIRC there is a cam gear off a ford that can be used and I believe Plechtan made a post about it. But it required a bit of modification. What are you sending your cam to Jones for?
It would probably be too much work to make a cam shaft work with the earlier cam gear as opposed to make a gear work with the cam.

Re: Cam and Timing Set combinations
The ideal cam, for me, would have the Comp Cam specs, use a retainer plate and connect to the Cloyes without any modifications. That's why I'm looking to Jones. I don't want any modifications (timing cover, spring/pin, etc), if I can avoid it. If they can build one like that, I would spend a premium for it. If they can't, I'm looking for the most simple alternative.
