Ok just fooling around with the Dyno Sim-program comparing camshafts,so far (and for the last 20 years) I used a Crane Max Velocity hyd. cam 272/284 0.484/0.512 and been very happy with that but since we have so long winthers here in Sweden I think there's still time for a change of the camshaft,and now I found that 505 Performance has a hydraulic flat tappet that seems to be a good choice,anybody knows anything about this camshaft like : does it work well in a stroker,is it a good one if You spray a 100 hp shot of nitrous and such stuff.

I'm thinking of their Stage 3 flat tappet camshaft "272/280-14H" since that is one of very few that shows simular HP/TQ-figures as my old Crane MV,in fact it seems to have a slight advantage over my old cam with less duration and lower lift and that could be a good thing...

I have read on here that it's been some disscusions about their roller cams and som problems with them,is there the same issues with their flat tappet camshafts as with the roller cams?

But before I order anything from them I just want to check on here if somebody has something to say on the subject,do not wanna end up with something that fails due to material issues since there is a ocean and half a world in between...

personally i'd avoid anything 505 related...do a search and make your own decision

x2. A while ago I thought hard about getting a 505 roller cam. Their presales support is pretty lacking, giving the bare minimum of details as well as just plain skipping questions. One person on here purchased their kit and it ended in cam bearing failure due to the huge groove they cut in the side of their lifters with a die grinder. I also heard from a couple others that their orders were missing parts as well as packager poorly. One cam was hanging out of the box. Out of everyone that I know that has purchased from the only one person is happy. I would advise against purchasing from them. They are trying to play on the same level as Hesco, but obviously their products or support isn't up to Hesco's level.

Question for str8-6: what year is your jeep? or more specifically are you Renix, OBD1 or OBD2? With no reputable roller cams available 'yet', i was planning to use that same Crane H-272 cam in my OBD1 stroker and would like to know what you think of it and how well it gets along with your MAP sensor? And anything else you care to mention re: idle quality, power characteristics, mpg's. *Sorry to hijack the thread*

No problem...

My engine is a 1989 4.0 so that should be a Renix but I am using a Offenhauser manifold and a 600 vac. Holley carb.so I'm sorry; can't help You with that...

So if I order a camshaft from them I will get the packaging material 3 days before the actual cam arrives if it ever does in usuable condition...If they can't pack it good enough for shipping inside the USA imagine how it would look after been shipped across the Atlantic and then some...

That's a shame because this is one of very few cams that gives the engine a bit more top end than my old reliable Crane cam and doing so with the same HP and TQ from the bottom-end and up to 5500 rpms where it shows almost 10 hp more at couple of 100's rpm above that according to my Motion Software Dyno Sim 5 program...

this is my experience dealing with 505 performance..red sand in the packaging with my parts..1rst roller cam had tracking on cam about 3/16 " deep after 10k miles..roller lifters link bar pin broke at 10k miles..they warrantied cam and lifters very quick...2cnd cam wiped out after 10k miles also due to inferior link bar setup they designed and also had tracking on cam..they have poor customer support but will tell you the moon is made of cheese to make a sale..they told me they have many customers using the 505 roller cam with great success i say bs...i compare them to the white van scam guys trying to sell sterio eqipment..i will never deal with them again i dont care what latest go fast part they sell..read my thread "who had luck with 505 performance roller cam..i didnt" to see pics.

Thank's guys,seems that it's better to stick with what I got,can't be worth it to gain 10 hp on top if You got to go through a lot of crap just to get some stuff that eventually will fail and put my car in the shop waiting for replacements...Our Swedish summers are waaaayyyyy to short for that...

i have been having good luck with the racer brown custom grind flat tappet ..1 got 10k miles on it and no problems so far..

I bought a 505 stage 1 hyd cam from 505 for my first stroke. I beat it like a rented mule, filled the motor full of mud and sand every weekend and daily drove it for 30,000 miles.
At 30,000 miles I developed a miss and tracked it to a few cam lobes going flat. I called zack at 505 and explained my problem. He told me it was likely 3,4,and 6 cylinders that were going flat. When I looked at my cam I confirmed he was correct.
He asked how many dist gears I had been through and I told him two. He then told me to remove my hi volume oil pump. He did not ask if I had one, he knew.
It seems that jeep inlines dont like hi volume oil pumps, thick oil, and tight clearences.lol
Zack explained that the hi volume pump was putting too much of a load on the dist gear and eating it. The metal is thrown onto three and four cyl cam lobes and then it takes out six. Who am I to argue.
I am now running a 505 stage two that I had nitrided, I have about 6,000 daily driver miles on it.

I know a few have had problems with the roller cams and it sucks. I have had nothing but great ser ice and products from 505.

But yet he tells another person with one of their cams to use a HV pump.
