Comp 239 cam question

Post by wizzo »

Hey guys.. I'm about to pull the trigger on a comp 239-4 cam for my 06 TJ, instead of the 235.. It is not yet a stroker motor. It currently sits with intake, headers + 2.5 inch exhaust, ported throttle.. I will be getting the head port and polished and installed, the car will be tuned with flying Ryan and might see a 20-30 shot of nitrous. All my driving is in the dunes, so torque is important but the top end is also very important, in the sand the car is regularly seeing the rev limiter..

I was also wondering if mopar valve springs and retainers will work with this cam? What will low end torque be like on this cam? Stroker won't be done for at least a year, by that time I might just buy a long block, so I want the head to be ready.. Also should I use the comp cam cam gear? My engine only has about 30000 miles on it, so it's fairly new :)

Yes, the Mopar 5249464 valve springs with 4452032 retainers and 4529218 keepers will work fine.
Low rev torque will be softer than with the stock cam but above 4000rpm it'll be stronger.
Your existing camshaft sprocket won't fit on any aftermarket cam so you'll need to get an aftermarket timing set e.g. Cloyes dual roller CLO-9-3127 and the earlier style recessed cam bolt with spring/pin and larger washer.
