hesco kit

Post by titan »

Why isn't the hesco kit more popular? It uses 4.0 length rods and forged pistons, which seem to be inline with building an ideal low buck striker, yet on this board almost nobody talks about it, even as an option, despite individual parts from hesco being routinely recommended.

Also specific information about it is fairly scarce if one wanted to calculate the dcr for example.

The 4.0 rod and piston combo hasnt really been proven to build an "Ideal\better\longer lasting" stroker. Short Rod vs Long Rod is debatable and im one that doesnt believe the hype.. especially considering were not talking about that much of a difference. Plus the long rod combo costs more..

Anyway, i think most dont buy a HESCO kit or parts because of the cost.
If it feels right, then STROKE it!

I was told like this...how many high mileage 4.2l are out there? Now what about 4.0ls? About the same right? I've seen several claims of 300k + out of the old 4.2ls. I think alot comes down to how its driven & treated!

The rod ratio of the 4.2l would be the same since your running the same crank and rods out of it. The true misfit without proof is the 4.2l crank and 4.0 rod. I think either will be fine and was told to not play into such a small portion of a motor. Things like a NEW damper and oil pump ect would be better that worrying about rod ratio or alike.
Also making sure things are debured & balanced out. I had a 1/8" rod ball of cast iron in my coolant passage on the head...I scratched at it. And off it fell. Now that's sketchy lol. I cleaned up all the oil and water passages with some paper rolls.

Exactly. They do only sell top notch parts but they almost invariably cost an arm and a leg.
As far as rod length/stroke ratio in a stroker goes, it's 1.51 with the 4.2L rods and 1.57 with the 4.0L rods so the difference is too small to really matter.
