i am in the process of building my first stroker(4.6L) and was wondering if a snorkel would restrict air flow at low speeds enough to cause A/F problems
the engine is not built yet and my collected parts list is
Vehicle 2000 jeep xj
extra block from a 2000 xj (no machining work done yet)
i have two 12cwt 258 cranks both made (.10/.10) on mains and rod
two sets of #707 rods
comp cams 68-231-4 cam shaft
heavy duty cylinder head from alabama cylinder heads (intake port matched and soon exhaust port matched just got the header)
valve springs and retainers and lifters and waiting to be put on the head (mopar performance)
in process of getting a 63mm bored TB
Banks torque tube ( wrapped)
new style intake (port matched to head)
new water pump thermostat and hoses
24lb ford injectors
its a start
thanks for any help

Re: intake air restriction SNORKELS
Was looking at a snorkel for my daily/mild jeepspeed myself so I'm very curious...however I'm after the raised intake it still ram air effect. I think your the opposite lol.

Re: intake air restriction SNORKELS
The snorkel won't cause AFR problems. It will be a restriction though. Ram air on a road vehicle is a myth and nothing will be gained. Matching the exhaust ports to the header is a bad idea resulting in reduced low end torque as headers typically have a flange many times larger than the exhaust port. Wrapping the header is also a bad idea as it can crack the tubes over time.

Re: intake air restriction SNORKELS
Thanks silver, I thougt about the cowl intake setup as well...mainly cause I do offroad mine. And a few times I've had to be careful with what I'm going or had to just back up because the water I was in was getting to deep for the factory air box.
