New Stroker Build

Post by ruffy01 »

G'day to all. (Yeah, an Aussie  )
Some great info here & I'm about to commit, or be committed, but need a little advice.
A little background first, I used to run a 511HP 440 in an Australian Valiant 2 door pacer (they used the 1969 Dodge Dart bodyshell), so I have a little rev-head in me. So naturally when looking at a stroker build I was getting a bit carried away looking at long rods & KB forgies.
BUT, I sat down and had a stern talk with myself & realised I'm NOT building a race car
My '96 XJ has 4.5" lift, 33's & 4.11's and has 420 000Km's on the clock.
It does some serious off roading, touring, it's my DD & I'm sick of it kicking back a gear (or two) just to maintain 100Km/H on the highway when I hit a hill!
So, with that in mind, here are my thoughts.

I've just purchased a 258 12CW long snout crank P/N: 3214723 (already machined .010/.010 for $195 :D ) & I'm looking for some 258 rods, not that easy to find here but they'll turn up.
After the block is machined & I know the spec's I'll look for a master rebuild kit. Now some things are alot cheaper to just buy from the States (USA :) ), even inc. freight, & this is one of them.
So I'm looking for recommendations on suppliers, their kits & what you would/might alter from their standard kit.
So far I've considered these:
http://titanengines.com/engine-kits/mas ... kit-1.html
http://www.flatlanderracing.com/rebuildkitsamc.html
http://www.perfectengine.com/Jeep_4_0L_ ... j242dp.htm
Also, RockAuto, Summit Racing, Cleggengine, etc.

Please guys, what are your thoughts?

If you want to keep the stroker build as simple as possible, just copy my modified "poor man's" recipe.

Thanks for the reply Chero'.
I'm after specific info on the quality, or lack of quality, of the components included in a master rebuild kit from various suppliers.

Cheers,
Ruffy.

I don't have experience of any of those kits but I'd just put together my own list of parts and get them from summit racing.

Thanks again Dino - just realised who Cheromaniac is!
I know of others here in Aus who've dealt with Summit & have good feedback for them.
