First Stroker Build

Hey guys, just wanted to say thanks for all the good info you make available on this site. In the past year the oil pressure generated by the stock 4.0L in my '00 XJ slowly diminished, so I decided a rebuild was in order. And while I was at it, why not add some power? I bought a stroker kit from 505 performance (later saw some flak about them on here, but my experience with them has been good). During the tear down I discovered the culprit behind my depleting oil pressure--the infamous cylinder head crack between cyls 2 and 3. So I ordered a new head (not reman) from Clearwater.

I'm practically finished assembling my long block, and will be ready to drop her back in within a day or so. I'm keeping it pretty simple...kudos to you guys who port/polish, massage deck heights, mod intake and exhaust manifolds, etc.

Again, many thanks for a bunch of good tips, such as those nasty "e" bolts, shaving a bit off the Melling HV pump, spacing on the mains brace, and tweaking the oil pan for fitment after spacing the brace (just to name a few).

Here's a photo of the long block just before dropping it back in.

OK, so after getting everything back in place I discovered that it won't run for more than a few seconds before stalling. Acts like it's running out of fuel. And it is throwing the following codes: P1391, P0351, P0352, and P0353. I'm guessing that I installed the camshaft position sensor incorrectly (off by a tooth), although I thought I took great care to get it right. I'll take a crack at that and hope I'm right.

When I had the last 3 codes my CPS was bad.

Check your fuel pressure...and make sure you have the little plastic washers and the o-rings put in the right place. I just went through this same thing...now I just have to clean up the blown PS line! Argh!!!

Alrighty, it was the cam position sensor. Glad it was so simple. Did the 30 minute cam break-in routine, let her cool down, replaced the oil filter, then took her out for a 35 mile spin. Runs like a dream. Definitely a noticeable increase in power. No strange noises, including no pinging on 85 octane pump fuel.
