Cam suggestion for racing.

Post by jonb8 »

Anyone wanna suggest a cam for my mud racer? She leaves in low 1, and it stay's above 3200 to the limiter. On 33's she hit's drive and on 35's she stretches the 150ft pit in 2nd (This is last year with a stock motor and upgraded exhaust). This is a mud/sand drag jeep only so I don't care about fuel economy or running high octane fuel. It'll have a mild port head, a header with 24lbs injectors and a 62mm throttle body. Any help would be appreciated, I'm kinda confused with cams and I can't find any posts where motors are run for HP only and at WOT.

Went to the pick-n-pull yesterday and got a 99+intake and power steering set up. Also got a head off a 96xj plus alot of little stuff. The stroker is in but runs crappy at lower RPM's and doesn't clean up till 3,000-3500rpms. Might be me moving the crank sensor all the way to the pass side and putting to much timing in it,,,,Not sure. I'm gonna change the crank sensor and see it it helps

The top end is stock right now, I'm gonna spend the winter researching compression (by cutting the head) porting the head, and putting the header, 99 intake and injectors in. I wanna be able to run the jeep in the woods this winter then put all the other stuff on in the spring before racing season. I'm more of a cut and weld guy and not even close to being a engine guy.. I'm gonna need all winter to read, read, read..... :D
