Source for offset woodruff keys to tweek the cam timing

Post by MoFo »

I want to try advancing the stock cam a few degrees to boost the low end torque and DCR. I have been looking for offset 3/16 woodruff keys for this purpose, but can't seem to find them. Can anyone recommend a source for offset cam keys?

I don't know about the offset keys but my cloyes double roller timing chain set had a crank gear that was cut for 0 4 adv and 4 ret so you could choose a little timing differences.

I realize this drive set has that option, but this is a mild 4.6L and I will run the stock cam. I am looking for a less expensive option for now.

Drill the hole in the cam gear for the cam dowel larger and get a set of offset bushings.

Mopar/Direct Connection did have them for small blocks. pn P4286500. 3/16" x 3/4". These may be out of production. A google search on the pn may locate some.
Mr Gasket has them avail individually in both short 3/4" and long 1-3/8" lengths.
985G= 2 deg offset, long
987G= 2 deg offset, short
988G= 4 deg off set, short

I haven't verified which length the Jeep uses!!....

Thanks Walt.
The Jeep I6 uses the Chevy "short" woodruff (3/16" x 3/4"), as opposed to the Chevy long, which is 3/16" x 1 3/8".

It's been many years now but we did this insome of the 258's we ran in the early '80s, and we did use the "chevy" key.
