GOLEN "LONG" BLOCK?

Post by JEEP DRIVER »

8-) Hey everyone. I was on the Golen wedsite and they have a 4.6 long block "boost engine"" (which am eguessing the boost is comeing from the cam? ) is it possible to get that 350 HP from the cam that like 80 more HP from the regluar 4.6 stroked they advertise. If it is true that pretty impressive. Although you never know sometimes 8-) [*]o

The engine itself does not make 350 hp. The extra comes from 6psi of boost from a turbo or super charger. The cam does not give the engine the extra boost. Going off their spec sheet (http://www.golenengineservice.com/docum ... p%20LB.pdf) it has custom forged pistons, probably with like a 28cc dish to bring the compression down to 9:1, a scat crank and scat forget I beam rods (didn't know scat offered rods for the 4.0l). It also doe snot come with the forced induction.

Thanks, silver xj I was on my droid phone when I was looking at the site, so I couldn't look at the data sheet. When I got home I was able to see what you were taking about makes a lot of sense now . it Would of been cool thou, if that hp number WAS naturally-aspirated 8-)

IIRC Golen use the 4.2 rods and Speed Pro hypereutectic pistons. Nothing exotic.

Having forged internals: rods, pistons, and even crank, if available, is always a good idea if you plan to turbo- or super-charge an engine. Pistons tend to have deeper dishes to bring comp down so that you can then increase it with boost. Check that link out Dino and you'll see the goodies that it comes with(but of course you could build cheaper). I haven't read of any complaints w/ Golen, ATK(who now supplies the Mopar strokers), or Hesco, so don't think you'd go wrong with choosing them.

Agree, though the last two are very pricey. Golen don't give much detail about the parts that they use in their boosted stroker but with only 6psi of boost, even the stock parts would be fine.
