Well the 4.6 survived it's inital 20 min run in to break in the cam. I do have one issue....the idle seems to be pretty high about 1500 and I'm not sure whats the problem. I have had the battery cables off for about two weeks but I wonder if that's enough to reset the computer? Any ideas? I looked for a vac leak but haven't been able to find any.

did you make sure the intake mani is on right/lined up with the pins? it sounds stupid but its something easily over looked and that will cause the high idle. i know from experience

Could be a vacuum leak. Check for leaks and make sure all the hoses are where they should be connected. Particularly the ones on the intake manifold and the breather from the valve cover which is easily over looked. Check the seal between the head and intake manifold as well. And check the CPS and IAC as well.
Having the battery cable off for a week could clear the computer and it should have been cleared manually anyhow. But the computer is a fast learner and it would have learned to lower the idle.

Geez....
Now I'm nervous, I just talked to my engine builder and he said that it sounded like the cam was out of time? Could a high idle be caused by incorrect cam timing?
Thanks
Dean

I seriously doubt it. If the cam timing was off, the engine wouldn't run properly. I also think you have a small vacuum leak somewhere.

Well my manifold is over both pins equally... Took the IAC apart and cleaned it but it looks like it's all the way down on the seat. Is there a different gasket for the 99 style intake? I swaped a 99 intake in but used a 91 gasket maybe I'm sucking air at the head?
Spark plugs are white and the exhaust seems damn hot when its running pretty sure I'm way lean!
Idle also seems to get higher the warmer the motor gets.
Thanks
Dean

That was it. I retorqued the intake manifold and the motor slowed right down.
On to the next issue!
Thanks

Good to hear it was something simple
I've had to re tighten mine each time I change the gasket, but my idle didn't do that.
