Hi folks,
My stroker engine is up and running and cruising along nicely. Economy is down but i expect it to go up once i have it running correctly.
I have the obd2 computer in my 2001 TJ and i'd like to know what my tuning options are. I am booked in to receive a unichip but unfortunately the earliest i can get in is Feb 22!
What other alternatives do i have to make sure it's purring properly? I have a scangauge2 but it's not really giving me info that i can use to see if it's running OK. I'm about to hook up an exhaust gas analyzer soon to see if it's overfuelling (i believe it might be) but so far i believe there is a lot more i can get out of this engine.
Aside from the unichip and changing injectors what more can I do with the obd2 system? I'd like to at least get it running as best as i can until i get the unichip installed. I understand a lot of the homebrew tuner options work with obd1 but not obd2.
Any input and help is received with gratitude.
Regards,
Anthony

Re: Tuning the Stroker
Anthony,
My stroker is in a 97 TJ with OBDII. I bought a Zeitronix wideband setup and am getting ready to buy a split-second FTC1-019BV with aux inputs. The FTC1 will allow me to adjust open loop air fuel ratio (AFR) as well as retard timing. I wanted to be able to adjust (retard) the timing to run lower octane fuel for daily commuting. I plan to have a program (map tables) for 87 octane and another for 93 octane. The aux inputs on the FTC will allow me to input wideband information directly into split-second's software program so all the data logging is synchronized and stored in one place. The one bad thing about split-second is they're really proud of their products and it shows in their prices. I've dumped so much $ into this project that the extra coin for the FTC doesn't make much of a difference in the overall cost.
Based on Gradon's experience, I bought a set of low mileage injectors on ebay ($50) from a 96 CAMARO Z28 with an LT1 motor. They are supposed to flow 24 lb/hr at 43.5 psi and I'm expecting them to flow 25.5 lb/hr at my fuel rail pressure of 49 psi. The part number is 17121068. They finally arrived last night so I'll be cleaning them up and flow testing them soon.
So, I'm adding 3 things:
- Wideband sensor
- Higher flowing injectors
- Piggy-back fuel/timing recalibrator
Hope that helps.

Re: Tuning the Stroker
Thanks for the info fellas and Happy New Year.
I removed my tbs and it made one hell of a difference, it was like i hit the 'on' switch!
I have the jeep booked in for a unichip install for late february (quite a wait as it seems).
Regards,
Anthony

Re: Tuning the Stroker
Yes indeed, the throttle body spacer.
Considering it is an automatic I always expected that 'automatic rush', where you mash the gas, it drops a gear and screams its head off. Mine never did that, it would only ever apply a gradual speed increase, often times changing gears was not smooth or they would seem to 'skip'. The linkages were ok, i had spacers for the linkage bracket as well - it was set up exactly the way it was pre-stroker.
It was only until i had to remove the tbs to allow me enough room under the bonnet to fit my new intake system did i realise that it was causing problems. It's so damn fast and loud now i've scared the pants off quite a few unsuspecting passengers. It finally feels like a stroker.
Regards for the concern, i'm safe here on the west coast; the flooding is on the other side of the country!

Re: Tuning the Stroker
Removing the stock intake on my 2000 was one of the first things I did. Major change in acceleration. Still felt slower than my 91 though.

Re: Tuning the Stroker
I only ran the stock intake for the first two weeks until my k&N apollo came into stock. It was punchier for sure when the larger intake but that wasn't what made the notable difference. It was specifically the tbs which I removed a week after the apollo went on, that's when the real fun began.
