Post by israelcj7 »

hay everyone
today i pulled a cam shaft out of an 258, i tryed to google the number on the cam with no luck.
the number is 3238721 and it's stamp on the camshaft itself .
i have a 242 cam and the lobes of the intake looks the same but the exhaust lobes of the one i pulled from the 258 looks a bit higher (0.2\0.3 mm ) and it have the lobe for the fuel pump,
i tryed crane, comp, lunati, isky, crower and didn't find anything :banghead:
can you please help me i.d this camshaft ?

It's probably a stock 258 cam. I can give you the specs if you can tell me which year was the engine it came from.

the 258 had several types of stock camshaft?
is there a 258 cam with "higher" specs then a stock 242 cam?
if so, is it a better cam for 4.6 carb'd stroker then a stock 242 one?

Not really. The stock 258 cams are too "soft" for a 4.6 stroker. Sure you'll get bags of low rev grunt but there won't be much power above 4000rpm. Here's my cam spreadsheet:
