Exhaust Manifold Hardware

I'm soon to bolt up the manifolds to the stroker motor. I was missing some cone washers and a nut for the exh manifold stud. I went to jeep and got the parts..on their parts catalog it shows a spacer between the exh manifold stud nut and the manifold flange. I ordered them...its a PLASTIC barrel shaped spacer about 1/4 inch long. I am using the APN exh manifold and does not seem to be required? Wouldn't a plastic spacer melt in about 10 sec on an exhaust manifold? Do I need this ..will scan the parts picture if it helps..thanks

I've never seen that. Unless its silicon I would just get rid of it.

Bolted up the manifolds today.. mostly no problems. The number one bolt is buried behind a pipe...impossible to get a socket on even with wobbles and universals so I had to guestimate torque with a box end wrench..all the rest torqued to 24 ft lbs.The stud nuts are no longer the regular cone washers held on by a nut...now it is a captured nut and washer combination as one piece.I did not like the way that washer flattened out ...they are thinner than the bolt cone washer so I used the original design..cone washer and nut. For the hell of it I tried installing the factory specified plastic spacers.. no way in hell it fits on the APN manifold so I did not use...the stock manifold must have a larger hole for the studs and must need the spacer to center/align it. ...its starting to look like a motor...taking up more room in the garage every day
