getting Renix sensors working with '94 based stroker, help!

Post by BigOrangeXJ »

I'll try and keep it short and sweet. My XJ is an '88. 2.5 years ago I had my friend's uncle (a mechanic of 25 years) install a 4.6L Titan stroker (hopefully not the main issue). instead of just getting the motor running at that time, I asked him to do the closed loop cooling system upgrade and also the '99+ intake manifold upgrade at the same time. after all was said and done, the engine would start and idle for no more than 10-20 seconds then die. due to lack of time/$$/motivation the jeep has now been sitting for a while and I REALLY want to make something happen now that I have my own house and means to work on it myself. my main thinking behind the idling issue is that i can clearly see the IAC and TPS that are on the newer TB (that I also had bored out), are def not Renix. They must be from the same year as the TB ('96 I think), and I would think that a newer IAC would not properly communicate with the Renix ECU and therefore cause it not to idle correctly in the first place (talk about a big DUH). Can anyone verify this for sure. If this is the issue, is there any way to retrofit the Renix sensors with a newer TB that would definitely work, or should I just swap back to the old Renix intake mani/TB? I have to call Titan back as well, because if I recall the donor motor was from a '94, but I hope the heads aren't as well, because from what I read on JeepForum.com the intake manifold ports won't even align properly. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much

I'm getting ready to do the HO tb/head-intake on renix myself. I'm not to sure how to put in a link so.....hope it works

http://rockmodified.com/Tech/TB/tb_perf.htm There is some info on doing it. Just cut up your ho tps, pull the bushing out, and attach it to the renix tps.

I already cut up an HO tps,but I need to build the motor before i can set/try it.

Couldn't you flip the adapter over to mate the Renix TB to the HO intake?

You need to read past that part to get what's needed for the sensors. He kept the renix intake, so he had to use an adapter to mount it. But the sensor part is the same. Renix sensor "altered" to work off the HO tb. I'm not sure about the IAS motor part yet, been busy with other stuff.
