Help me stroke my 4.0!

Post by Reelm n Rubi »

I have a 2003 Wrangler with a Avenger Supercharger and I'm looking to build a 4.7. I have the engine out and the 258 crank is on the shelf and ready. I'd like to use the longer 4.0 rods but was hoping not to pay $600+ for forged custom pistons. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced piston for this application. I'd like a compression ratio a half point or so below the stock 4.0 compression ratio since I need to run 92 octane to prevent detonation on warm days with my current set up. My timing and fuel delivery is laptop adjustable. Any help is appreciated.

Call Diamond about their forged pistons directly from them, You might be surprised at the price direct. I really would ask you to consider a forged piston for the build you are talking about. Keith black pistons are still in the tower of Babel. I just hate extra parts in the oil pan that don't belong there.

Summit just quoted me ~$479 for the KBs. I dunno if that includes rings and shipping, but it's mighty steep compared to the v8 sets they sell, considering you pay more and get 25% less parts.

I'm waiting for Summit's response to my ? of that price(what it includes), but to me that seems to be the price for a set of eight pistons w/ pins, rings, and shipping.

Diamond won't sell direct, but I'm dealing with a KB Rep who's trying to push this order for a set of KB944 pistons through.

Let us know how the KB-rep does cause I'm ready to buy them ASAP(944s in +.020") I tried getting another KB employee to sell direct and he said they couldn't due to agreements with the distributors. Maybe you found the right person who can help us skip the middlemen(fingers crossed).

I don't think that is true. Talked with them in the spring and the guy I spoke with understood I was an individual user.

Maybe, if there is several that are ready to buy right now, They may have some provision to sell to the public that way(bolk buy

If so I'm sure we could spread the word, thru the jeeping community :D

Then again, those that are ready Right Now.........Probably wouldn't want to wait for that to get organized

I emailed them again today and told them that I need them by this weekend. My brother has to return to the Gulf next Friday, so I need to get them to my machinist and have the block back by next Wednesday at the latest. Today he found the 4.2 rods that he bought years ago, so I might have to go with the Sealed Powers if they keep bsin.
