What thermostat should i use with my 4.6L Stroker
I am running a 4.6L Stroker in my 2001 jeep wrangler and i was wondering should i be running the stock 195 thermostat? I guess the reason why im asking is because when ever i use my a/c my jeep gets too hot to the point where i have to let it cool in order to start it. It only happens when its really hot out or i use my a/c. Should i try a 180 thermostat?

Run the 195, if you run a colder one the computer will never change to closed loop, something else is wrong, fan clutch?, radiator plugged?, crappy water pump?, is the shroud still on it?
You can get more power out of ANY engine!!!

I am running a 180 with my stroker. It's been very hot down here in the southeast (101 yesterday), and I don't have any problems with overheating while running my a/c. The hottest its ever got was about 205 in stop and go slow traffic (in this hot 95+ temp). Also no problems in the winter time warming up to get the computer in closed loop.
Still, look for other problems. Your jeep shouldn't overheat even with a 195 thermostat.

Flush the whole cooling system, install new hoses, and refill the system with fresh coolant. There's a good chance that your radiator is clogged up with crud.jeeptj01 wrote:I am running a 4.6L Stroker in my 2001 jeep wrangler and i was wondering should i be running the stock 195 thermostat? look in between the rad and condenser as well, lots of buildup likes to stay in there. when i worked in the a/c shop, we would see cars with solid bugs and dirt in between the two alot.

I ran the 180, in mine for a while, until winter came in the mountains and the wife was complaining about no heat:( So the 195 went back in, it never overheats in the summer a/c on. But I also put the big 3-core brass radiator in it when I did the engine.
