Comanche rear brake height sensing valve

Post by 4.whoa »

I have an '87 mj that i'm having rear brake issues with. I've had it for a few years now and It's never seemed to have full braking from the rear. It's 2wd ,it's been lowered 2" I adjusted the linkage to try and keep the valve pretty close to where it was. I 've bled and adjusted the brakes numerous times, but still there is not enough help from the rear. it gets downrite scarry  when towing. I've messed with adjusting the linkage for the valve a little, but it hasn't helped. has anyone had issues with these? a few years ago I had the rear springs redone for pulling my xj to the track ;) and the shop didn't pay attn so the valve was being pushed the wrong way.(they must not have disconnected it when they pulled the springs.) I pulled the linkage and put it right and just went on my way. I'm not sure how its internals are so i don't know if that could've hurt it or not. At 1st I was thinking on just pulling it out,but there are 2 lines from the prop. valve. I don't know which one to use,do i need to use a different prop valve? from an xj maybe? the concept seems fine- less weight on rear , lifts under braking ,eases press so the rears don't lock. but i've looked under some other pickups and they didn't have anything like that, So i'm unsure what to do. Any suggestions?

I would just remove it, put in one from an XJ or buy an adjustable one from Jegs or Summit. You will abondon the line athat goes back to the existing prop valve. The instructions come with the new valve, the bottom line is that you will only need one line to the rear. it doesn't really matter which one, and just abondon the other.

Maybe you should post on http://www.comancheclub.com

Thanks for the reply. I think i'll do that, and i've been thinking about a 94 booster/mc swap as well. Might as well do it all at once and be done with it :)
