Dist gear roll pin?
Has anyone had trouble with shearing the roll pin that goes thru the ditributor shaft and gear? What did you do to repair/upgrade to keep it from happening again? Or can someone think of a reason for it happening besides that I'm running a HV oil pump? The gear on both the cam and dist look like brand new. I sheared my roll pin to the point it would bearly run.

Re: Dist gear roll pin?
I've heard of the distributor gear failing before, but not the roll pin. How many times has it happened to you? If only once I would just replace the pin and make sure the shaft isn't binding anywhere. Make sure that the gear isn't binding against anything either.

Re: Dist gear roll pin?
This was the first time, I can't find the multi layered hardened pins anywhere. I ended up going back to O'reillys and got my Cardone remaned Dist replaced for free. It has a lifetime warranty, but I was wondering if anyone had a better suggestion. I thought about a grade 8 bolt, cut a little long with some red locktite and peining (sp?) it in place.

Re: Dist gear roll pin?
Well it almost happened again, it started running bad. I pulled the dist cap and was able to move the rotor button back and forth. I pulled the dist, and sure enough it almost sheared the pin. I replaced it with a HD coiled spring pin from Grainger. I got the one with the highest double shear strength, so I guess the gear will be what goes next. I think when I pull the pan to replace the rear main seal I going to replace the oil pump with a OEM replacement and get rid of the HV pump.
