Has anyone ever drilled a new oil pressure port in the block like the OEM location on teh 4.2 blocks?
I want to run a oil pressure gauge under hood, a sender for my cab gauge and a pressure switch to shut off my FP if engine dies.
theres not enough room on my 89 block under the dist...
ideas?
creative solutions?
block is painted and installed so Im thinking I dont want to install shavings in the oil galley but...

Re: oil pressure port location
Would the oilpan have the same pressure as the block sees? Would be easier to drop that and tap it.
Another thought - would putting a line from the original location to a tee be feasible?

Oil pressure in the pan should be zero otherwise you start blowing out gaskets.
Running a line to a distribution block might be an option. Distribution block would have to be bolted down to allow for wrenching accessories tight into the fitting.

Re: oil pressure port location
Unless you want to tap into the block then the only option would be the oil sensor port to get pressure from.
I know on the newer blocks some vehicle pick up the pressure at the rear of the block, end of the galley. On the XJ it was always in the usual place, under the distributor with the rear port un drilled and tapped. I actually wanted to drill and tap the bung on the rear for future use, but when I remembered the machine shop was already done and I didn't want to introduce shavings in the block like you.

Re: oil pressure port location
I installed an oil filter spacer/sandwich that has (3) 3/8" threaded ports. I use one for the factory sending unit; which freed up the factory port in the block that I'm planning on using for a pre oiler system, one for an oil temp sensor and I still have one available. About an inch thick, picked it up for about $40.

Re: oil pressure port location
Why not run a flexable line (-3 steel braided) to a set of Tee's ?
Or just come off the port with 2 Tee's, that will give 3 ports
