On the way into wort his morning my oil pressure pegged it self at 80 lbs or so the OE gauge said (Normally it is at 40lbs and no higher that 60lbs.).
I shut the truck off turn the key to accessory on and sat there for a minute checked the oil level, then restarted the truck and oil pressure was fine, WTF?
Should I replace the sensor? The mild 4.6L I built has around 20,000 miles on it now and I used a new Clevite (Melling reboxed) oil pump.

Yes, change the sensor they go bad often. Fully pegged is either a short or an open in the system, I can't remember

I had an event like this occur.
I guess a new sensor is on the list of things to do.

Re: Wierd oil Pressure
It definitely goes to 80 when open/disco'd; not sure what happens if shorted. Due to the location, the sensor is easily banged during filter changes, so maybe just needs to be unplugged and replugged.

Re: Wierd oil Pressure
I took it out to run errands during lunch and the pressure was normal. I guess I will unplug it and reconnect it before I leave work maybe there is some crap in the harness or it got smacked. I did an oil change 1700 miles ago and since I drive 120 miles a day during the week it wasn't to long ago.gradon wrote:It definitely goes to 80 when open/disco'd; not sure what happens if shorted.
