Spring Locater?

Howdy gang

Purchased the Hesco springs (SBC) and retainers for my 4.6L stroker. We cut the spring pads to fit the springs and to get the correct spring pressure. I know we're not the only ones that have done this, so what have ya'll done to locate the spring on the pad? A cup or a ID locater?
