What am I missing

Post by 2000xjclassic »

I am building up a stroker for my 2000 XJ w/ AW4.

I will be using:
93 block out of a YJ
93 #7120 Casting Number Head
1978 258 12 CW crank out of a CJ7
93 4.0L Rods
.020 over KB 944 pistons w/ moly rings from cnc performance
Comp Cams CL68-232-4 + lifter kit
Cloyes double roller timing gear/chain set
99 +intake
Stock TB
Stock coil rail/ignition system
Stock Computer

The machine shop is waiting for the crank (needed to be reground) to check the deck of the block. I have read conflicting statements on if the KB944 pistons need the block decked and also deffering ammounts. Any final word on this?

Will I have any problems with the stock ignition system (no distributor, etc)? Is there any tthing I can do to help this outwith out spending a ton of money?

Will I have problems with my XJ motor mounts and oil filter?

What accesories should I use? What year did the water pump rotation switch? I would prefer to use my 2000 XJ water pump as it is fairly new. What about alternator, Power steering pump and brackets. The 2000 motor had a (dead) AC pump on it that I wouldn't mind getting rid of.

I would also like to pick up a header to use. Is anything off of eBay worth using? I would prefer to keep the header under $200. I also realize that I will need to get a new down pipe and possibly new exhaust bent up.

Are there any other huge issues that I will run into in terms if sensors or things matching up?

I am mainly worried about the ignition/coil rail set up working properly. Thanks for any help I can get.

the 93 head doesnt have any place to bolt the coil rail to, youll need to make a bracket. not hard, many have done it without issue. the water pump direction i think changed only with the v-belt/serpentine difference, and i think there was a difference in pump between 99+ intake to the older style. not sure on that one though. if you want to remove the a/c compressor, you may need a pulley from a jeep with no a/c. that would make it the easiest anyway. use the new intake (im sure you were going to anyway) and the new power steering pump. id probly keep the new alternator too. and the decking, i think that will depend on the engine you have, every block is different im sure.

No problem physically mounting the coil rail, I figured that one all out when I was trying to decide which head to use when my original head cracked a year ago. I am more concerned with the performance of the coil rail.

In reference to getting rid of the AC, could I use the 2000 water pump, 2000 power steering pump and bracket, 2000 allternator and bracket (possibly mount the alternator where the AC was?) and run the 1993 YJ belt pattern?
